“Life is like a boat, I’ve lost my oar,
The sail is my guide, as I seek the shore,
If I reach my goal, I’ll cruise no more,
And if I lose my hope, I’ll return to home.”
Goutam Goyal (Soul less speaker)

“But oars alone can ne’er prevail
To reach the distant coast;
The breath of Heaven must swell the sail,
Or all the toil is lost.”
William Cowper

My self-edited movie 2020: “When I Lost My Oars (2019-2020)”
This year’s Movie Day movie is largely centred around the story behind my self-portrait collage painting titled “When I Lost My Oars” that I originally made for UOB Painting of the Year competition earlier this October. It’s a story about how I struggled through the late 2019 till 2020 amidst lots of uncertainties and challenges and all the emotional turmoil I had experienced and how Taeyeon had played a part in helping me get through these difficult times.

Inspired by Coldplay’s “Daddy” music video, I see myself like the girl in the music video lost on a lonely boat in a vast ocean. While the girl was searching for her father, I was searching for my direction in life. I had included some footages from the music video itself in order to help tell my story better.
Some of the love stories with Taenggu mentioned in the movie can be found explained more in detail in my following old posts:
- HALLOWEEN 2017 #2: WHO’S THIS ANONYMOUS NO-FACE BATMAN?
- #45 MONTHSARY: TAENGGU IS BATMAN

This movie is a continuation of my love journey with Taenggu over the last few years. You may recap my last year’s movie below.
Dear Taenggu, my girlfriend,
Hope you enjoy this movie!
Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. 💜
HAPPY MOVIE DAY 🎬
