“It is the close observation of little things which is the secret of success in business, in art, in science, and in every pursuit in life. Human knowledge is but an accumulation of small facts made by successive generations of men–the little bits of knowledge and experience carefully treasured up by them growing at length into a mighty pyramid.”
Samuel Smiles

“It’s never too late, for with a purpose, a worthy goal and a motivation to reach those upper layers on the pyramid, a person can travel further in a few years than he might otherwise travel in a lifetime.”

This monthsary, after spending our time in Taenggu’s home country, South Korea and locking our love lock at N Seoul Tower, it’s time to pack our luggages again and fly off to Egypt and visit one of their ancient pyramids which have fascinated me for a long time!
In fact, my artwork has an even deeper meaning behind it. Remember about 2 months ago when I wrote the post KISS DAY 2020: THE MAGIC OF KISS-MAS TIME, I mentioned that I didn’t really regret over what was done in the past, whether the outcome was good or bad. I saw every pain and mistake that I experienced or made as a learning experience for me. However, after the post was published, I suddenly realised that while I did not regret what was done in the past, I did have some regrets over what was not done. During a meditation practice one day, my mind was brought back to the time in January 2019 when Taenggu came to Singapore to hold her ‘s…Taeyeon concert tour.
Read CONCERT EXPERIENCE: ‘S… TAEYEON CONCERT IN SINGAPORE – WHATEVER YOU SAID, I THOUGHT YOU WERE TALKING TO ME for my full detailed account of me attending the concert back then. However, there was one thing that I hadn’t mentioned in the post. About 1-2 weeks before the concert, I met up with a good friend and casually told her that I would be attending Taeyeon’s concert soon. She then suggested that I could make my own big LED fan board to catch Taeyeon’s attention at the concert and even offered to help make it together. At that time, I was rather hesitant about doing it given how reserved a person I am, so eventually this idea fell through and I went empty-handed. (I already had an unpleasant experience even bringing a large carrot plushie the previous time – read CONCERT EXPERIENCE: HALLYU POP FEST IN SINGAPORE – 手心手背都是肉,爱我还是她? – so that partly explained why I refused to do anything more than what I deemed necessary or within my comfort zone.)
That night during the concert, Taenggu filmed a video of herself on stage with a 180 degree view of all her fans sitting at the audience seats in the background and posted it on her instagram afterwards.

Now as I watched this video carefully again more than a year later, I couldn’t really tell which one among those in the audience in her video was me despite thinking that I had a really good and obvious seat sitting right at the edge of the 2nd section on her left side. Even as I retrieved my exact ticket details and the concert seating plan to try to determine the position of my seat in her video, it was still almost impossible to point out which of those tiny blurry heads in the video was me.

So here came my regret. What if I really did make a large LED fan board back then?! Then I (and Taeyeon) would have easily spotted where I was in her video!
Then I was reminded of my old poem PYRAMID OF LOVE written in 2017. It was basically about me trying to catch Taeyeon’s attention and get closer to her like climbing a pyramid, moving between the different tiers of a fan, friend and lover. Eventually I would get to the top of the pyramid where she could recognise me immediately because I have become the only one out of her million fans out there.
But looking at my situation at the ‘s…Taeyeon Concert in Singapore, which tier of the pyramid was I at? I guess I was still lying at the base of the pyramid! But if I had really made and held a LED board high up at the concert (if the organiser allowed) to catch her attention, then maybe I would have reached the top already! Lol. Just my metaphorical way of saying things. 😝
So here I made this artwork to convey my desire of reaching to the top of that fan pyramid so that Taeyeon wouldn’t have to squint her eyes to see who or where I am any longer and she would look straight into my eyes and recognise me right away.

Dear Taenggu, my fellow traveller to the ancient Egyptian pyramids,
Hope you like this artwork and the meaning behind it!
Looking forward to the day when I could finally stand at the top of the fan pyramid and shout “Hey Taeyeon, it’s me!!”
Or… would you tap me from behind?
HAPPY 67TH MONTHSARY!! 🏜💜
