Last December, after I did an artwork inspired by The Little Prince for Jonghyun’s death anniversary for the first time since he passed away in 2017 and published the following post JONGHYUN 2ND DEATH ANNIVERSARY: JONGHYUN’S WORLD – PLANET B-612, I heard voices mentioning the words “half-blood prince” and even though I wasn’t sure what it meant, I intuitively decided from that point onwards that I would make my next artwork for him surrounding the concept of “half-blood prince” for his coming birthday in April.
What came to mind when I first heard the words “half-blood prince” was J.K Rowling’s 6th novel of the Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”. Since I wasn’t really a Harry Potter fan, I had to look up on what a Half-Blood Prince is. It says that a half blood refers to one who is born to one wizard and one muggle (non-wizard) parents. The term “Half-blood Prince” was a self-imposed nickname used by Professor Severus Snape in the story. However, when applying this term onto Jonghyun himself, as my imagination ran a little wilder, could “half-blood prince” imply that he is half-human half-spirit?
As this idea evolved later on, I decided that I could combine both characters of The Little Prince and Harry Potter as The Half-Blood Prince into one on my artwork. Doing so brought about yet another implication. I realised that coincidentally for the past valentine’s days in 2018 and 2019, I had made paper pixelated artworks on Harry Potter (VALENTINE’S DAY 2018: LOVE SPELL FROM HARRY POTTER) and The Little Prince (VALENTINE’S DAY 2019: PROTECT YOU LIKE THE LITTLE PRINCE PROTECTS HIS ROSE) respectively, both of which happened after Jonghyun’s death. Does it mean that both ideas were actually given to me by Jonghyun’s spirit and I wasn’t consciously aware of it until now??
Keen on making this fusion of the two well-known fantasy characters into a simple therapeutic form of paper art, I gathered my references of The Little Prince and Harry Potter and got started!
Now a new fairytale character is born! Let’s welcome The Little Half-Blood Prince into life 🙇🏻👏👏👏
