“First, think. Second, believe. Third, dream. And finally, dare.”
Walt Disney
“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
Walt Disney
“Don’t stress over anything that you can’t change.”
Mickey Mouse
“I vow to love you, and no matter what challenges might carry us apart, we will always find a way back to each other.”
Leo, “The Vow” movie
“It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really hard. We’re going to have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want to be with you. I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day.”
Noah, “The Notebook” movie

Similar to PHOTO DAY 2019: SAY CHEESE, MY MICKEY MOUSE CHIOBU~, I want to do a Mickey Mouse concept for this Movie Day too. But I’m going to do something new that I have never done before – making a DIY portable Mickey Mouse analog television! This TV will act like a photo frame to put lenticular (or GIF) photos of me and Taenggu so it will look as if the image is moving like watching a movie on a TV.

My idea was inspired by Taenggu’s “This Christmas: Winter Is Coming” album in 2017 which was an idea given by Taenggu to have a lenticular for its cover.

Before I started making my DIY Mickey Mouse TV, I carefully selected the following few photos of me and Taenggu and send them to an online photo printing shop to print them into GIF photos which took a few days.

I was very excited when I received my GIF photos order in my mailbox. I had ordered 2 sets of the same photos so that I could keep 1 set for myself and the other for the artwork to Taenggu. You will see how these GIF photo effects look like later down this post.

Once I got my GIF photos ready, I began working on my DIY Mickey Mouse TV right away!

First, I covered the surface of an unwanted small thin box with a black paper. One important tip about doing DIY crafts is to recycle any unwanted items you have at home!
How it looks like when the box is fully covered in black. Now it looks ready to be transformed into a TV set!
Preparing to make a card slot for my GIF photos next!
Making pencil markings on a piece of silver paper before I cut and fold it into a card slot
How the card slot looks like when it’s done! I learned how to make this DIY card slot from online tutorials.
Making sure my GIF photo would fit into the card slot perfectly!
Next, I stuck the silver card slot down onto the black box earlier on.
Checking the effect of slotting in my GIF photo onto this half-done DIY TV set. Mmm, satisfied!
Preparing to put some buttons in the form of mickey mouse gloves and printed images of old-school TV knobs
Positioning where I want to put these knobs and buttons first
Then, I cut 2 slits into the black box using a penknife and inserted a mickey mouse glove button into each slit.
Also glued 2 TV knobs together with the mickey mouse glove buttons and the TV looks more ready to be switched on and tuned in to your favourite channel anytime!
I managed to get this real second-hand analog TV antenna from a seller on Carousell!
Making pencil marking at the centre top side of the box before I cut a hole with a penknife to insert the antenna in it.
Then I secured the antenna down into the hole with white glue.
I made 2 round Mickey Mouse ears and wrote the words “Mickey Mouse” and “탱구TV” on each respectively, as if it was a collaboration between Mickey Mouse and Taenggu’s official youtube channel kekeke.
I then stuck each ear at each side of the antenna at the top of the TV.
Made the body parts of Mickey Mouse with various colour papers
I then glued these separate pieces on the backside of the TV to form the back view of Mickey Mouse!

And we are done!

Proudly presenting to you, my very first DIY portable Mickey Mouse 탱구TV that you can bring anywhere with you and watch your favourite “movies” while on-the-go! 😆

Taking out the other lenticular photos that are stored in the box so that you can switch the photos interchangeably from time to time!

The visual effects of each of my 3 lenticular photos that I have custom made for you. 😍

The TV antenna is also free to extend for as long as you want when you feel like your signal is getting weak. 😆📡📶

Speaking of Mickey Mouse, here’s a throwback of Taenggu wearing Mickey Mouse ears hairband while giving me good advice on chasing my dreams on her instalive.

One thing that Taenggu taught me: It's good to set goals even if they are small. It's so true. I already feel that sense of achievement even if it's just ticking a simple item off my checklist. (And yes, feelings of coziness is important to me too! ㅋㅋ) ⁣ ⁣ 2 weeks ago, on 2nd March, I made an Instagram post sharing the encouraging words from Taenggu to anyone who is fighting for their dreams. At that time I wrote that while I was working hard to continue my passion while juggling with work to earn a living, I actually did not have definite goals in mind. After that post of mine, Taenggu posted 2 pieces of instastory with just signs and emoticons, no words. It could be puzzling to others without knowing the context. But to me, it was pretty clear what she meant.⁣ ⁣ For me, as a person with schizophrenia stuck in between the physical and spiritual worlds with my broken mind easily exposed to both good and bad energies and spirits yet wants to take advantage of the good sides of this illness, is like the girl drinking poison, risking my life to fulfil what I see as my soul purpose. All I want to do is to get good energy to gain inspirations and ideas to do my art and write and ultimately enjoy life while I am still living. After all, life isn't all about the endless chase after fame and money, isn't it?⁣ ⁣ To achieve my dream of having a fulfilling life and happiness, that's where Taenggu says that setting a goal is important. The point where my goal flag is, when and how will I get there? 🏁⁣ ⁣ #taeyeon #taenggu #태연 #탱구 #太妍 #泰妍 #泰古 #wisewordsfromtaenggu #lessonsfromtaenggu #signsandsymbols

November has always been a particularly difficult month for me in the recent years. Besides having to deal with the melancholy of celebrating my birthday without Taenggu, doing artworks for 11.11 and Movie Days have always been extra challenging for me too. It’s like doing double the work than usual – for example, for 11.11, on top of an artwork, I had to push myself to practise playing Taenggu’s 11:11 on a guitar / ukulele too, which is out of my usual expertise (refer to post: 11.11 2019: I WISH FOR YOUR WISH COME TRUE). For Movie Days, it only makes sense to edit my own movie of my love story with Taenggu, which is not in my usual repertoire too. This year, however, with renewed strength, faith and motivation, I even decided to do both an artwork and a movie now, in stark contrast to last year when I gave up completely on doing anything for Movie Day at all. “Just give all that you’ve got!” my inner voice must have told me.

So here it is, please switch on my special Mickey Mouse 탱구TV and tune in to Channel Celeste Movies, because I’m going to broadcast my very own Movie of the Year 2019 to you, which took me about a week to edit – “Love Journey of Me and Taenggu”. Enjoy! Kekeke. 🎥
