This couple day on the month of October – Wine Day, I wanted to “up my game”. Instead of a Disney fairytale themed card that I had been doing for the past few months (with the exception of the Mickey Mouse photo collage I did for Photo Day last month), I decided to do a regular framed artwork like those I did for our monthsaries this time. And the main character from Disney fairytales this Wine Day is – Ariel The Little Mermaid!

My concept for the artwork is kind of similar to my first Wine Day artwork WINE DAY 2017: WINE POOL PARTY. But this time instead of having Taenggu float in a glass of red wine, I envisioned having Ariel swim in it with her mermaid tail so that I could continue my efforts of making Disney inspired artworks for Korean couple days this year.

So here were the reference pictures I used for the artwork.

Nowadays when I get A4 photo frames for my artworks, I find the sample graphic papers in the frames so pretty that I think it would be a pity if I always dispose them into the bin. So I had an idea. Why not recycle these papers and turn them into an artwork too, like this one below?

This one has a nice marble background with a simple quote “Love is best” by Robert Browning on it. All I need to do is to tweak the quote a bit to suit the concept of my Wine Day artwork. “Love is best… with wine and mermaid tail” was what I came up with.

First thing was to remove the sample paper from the frame, and since it was quite flimsy, I pasted onto a harder piece of scrapbook paper so that it would be more firm and sturdy.

Here are (almost) all the materials I would be using to make the artwork.

I did a sketch of how I want Ariel to be resting in my glass of red wine on a tracing paper first, then transferred the sketch onto a scrapbook paper and cut it out.

Next, I used a green glitter washi tape to tape all of her mermaid tail, the same method I employed for Tiffany’s birthday artwork FOR TIFFANY: SAILOR MERMAID TIFFANY YOUNG too.

Then I cut out Ariel’s upper body from my reference picture I had printed out on paper and pasted it above her tail.

Next, I traced the outline of the wine glass and made the wine level higher than what was originally on my reference picture and transferred it onto a clear plastic sheet and cut it out.

Then I proceeded to make the red wine portion using a red translucent cellophane wrapping paper I got from Popular.

Next I did the calligraphy of the remaining words I wanted to add in with a metallic gold marker.

After putting the mermaid and wine glass into position, something felt amiss about the artwork as a whole.

The effect of my wine glass that was made with a clear plastic sheet didn’t come out as ideal as I had expected. The outline of the glass wasn’t clearly defined and was hardly visible to the eyes. I would need something that is not completely transparent and has some shade of colour to it.

This old purple translucent file was the best alternative I could find at home.

So I cut out the outline of the glass from the purple file and placed the clear plastic with the red wine over it.

Now I’m satisfied!

Framed it back into the black frame earlier on and my Ariel The Mermaid Wine Day artwork is complete! Took me 1 day to make this (minus the time spent on planning and preparation). 😊

Detailed photos of the completed artwork come splashing your way! 🌊

Hehehe speaking of Ariel, I remember how Taenggu got herself a life-sized Ariel plushie from Tokyo Disney Sea last year and I also got her an illustration book on how to be a mermaid.

Read my old instagram posts below about the 8 signs that Taenggu is a mermaid and her love affair with Ariel lol! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Recently I found a perfect illustration book for Taenggu! It's about how to be a mermaid. πŸ§œβ€β™€οΈ It talks about the characteristics that a mermaid would have. Out of the several signs of a mermaid mentioned inside this book, I had picked the best 8 (there are many more that are equally good too) to feature here which made me think in astonishment that the mermaid character featured in this book is actually Taenggu herself! Don't these signs here a true reflection of Taenggu's personality in real life? Taenggu IS the mermaid. γ…‹γ…‹ Hope Taenggu enjoys reading this little book as much as I did! πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ’œ . . #taeyeon #taenggu #νƒœμ—° #탱ꡬ #ε€ͺ妍 #泰妍 #泰叀 #signsofamermaid #illustrationbook #taenggumermaid #mermaidtaeng #인어

Featuring Taenggu's latest love interest when she got herself a life-sized Ariel plushie at the Tokyo Disney Sea sometime in June this year. She was even questioned by Tiffany later on during their co-instalive in October why she has an Ariel pillow at home coz everyone knows that Ariel is originally Tiffany's favourite. Lol. I could totally understand Taenggu when she explained it was because the plushie was long enough to be hugged between her legs like a bolster coz it was the same reason why I decided to get my rainbow bunny Bobo a few years ago too. πŸ˜†πŸ§œβ€β™€οΈπŸ° . . #taeyeon #taenggu #νƒœμ—° #탱ꡬ #ε€ͺ妍 #泰妍 #泰叀 #tiffany #ν‹°νŒŒλ‹ˆ #arielthemermaid #plushie #softtoy #characterpillow #samelogic

To my Taenggu who is also a mermaid to me among many other things (refer to TAEYEON DAY 2019: THAT BEAUTIFUL MYSTICAL GIRL WHO LIVES IN MY MIND GARDEN),

Hope you like this Ariel The Little Mermaid themed Wine Day artwork that I made for you this year too! Let’s enjoy a glass of red wine together this evening and have fun splashing into the sea of red like a mermaid. Hahaha. 🌊🌊🌊

Cheers! 🍷🍾
