“Singing on the moon to be near the stars, to be close to you.”
“Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a, Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me
Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you”
“Fly Me To The Moon” Lyrics
This artwork is a continuation of the Taenggu mermaid drawing I made for her birthday last year (TAEYEON DAY 2017: TAENGGU MERMAID). When I was brainstorming for an idea for her birthday drawing this year, the following quote by C.J Peterson which I had previously shared on instagram gave me an inspiration.
If my soul is scattered like the stars in the night sky, I reckon Taenggu, even though she belongs to the oceans, would go all out to travel outer space just to be somewhere closer to me.
So I imagined Taenggu sitting on a swing hanging from a branch of a tree on the moon among the stars singing her favourite songs to me. It was spring with blooming flowers and some falling green leaves. It is the season in which Taenggu was born, a spring baby.
I used the following reference picture of Taenggu photoshopped by a fellow SONE which fitted perfectly into the idea of my drawing.
I used watercolours to colour her face and body. As for the moon, a brilliant idea struck me that I could put one of the 2 pieces that I had done at the Moon Magic Watercolour Workshop last year into good use.

Spent a meaningful Saturday morning attending the Moon Magic Watercolour Workshop! It's my first time learning to paint with watercolour professionally. Quite an enriching experience to learn and try out the basic watercolouring techniques in 2 hours! How are my first 2 pieces of moon painting? Magical enough?? Haha. 😍🌝 #watercolour #painting #art #workshop #lesson #moon #magic
I simply cut out the watercolour moon from the previous drawing paper and reused it for this artwork. It saved me a great deal of time and effort. And I was comforted to know that the money that I had spent for that workshop last year wasn’t wasted after all! At least it had come to serve a special purpose for my birthday drawing for Taenggu this year eventually. Haha.
The rest – the tree branch, flowers, leaves, wooden swing and stars – were all made from paper cuttings. It took me one whole Sunday afternoon to complete this artwork. It was a rather fun process making it too. I guess it’s always fun to be creating something that is full of fantasy, magic and fairytale in it.
The above cover picture of this post is a scanned A4 copy of my drawing. My actual art piece actually has Taenggu’s mermaid tail sticking out of the black paper because the paper was too small but I thought it looks cuter this way too! 😍
I was rather satisfied with the outcome of my product. Hope Taenggu liked it too!
Through this drawing, the message that I want to say to Taenggu is, “Continue fighting for your dream and pursue your passion in singing. Till the whole world stops to hear you sing. I’ll be rooting for you.” 💜💪🎤
HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY TO YOU! I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH 😘

Taenggu’s birthday is not complete without a birthday card! Last year, I made her a Jack Skellington card. This year, it’s a Unicorn Mermaid for her. Hope she likes it! 🦄🐠💜
