“But strong girl, you know you were born to fly
Tears you’ve cried, all the pain you’ve felt
It’s to prepare you for the day you’ll fly even higher
Butterfly,
Everybody’s gonna see it soon”
Taeyeon’s ‘I’ lyrics

I’ve always enjoyed doing paper art – cutting small pieces of coloured papers and pasting them to create a picture. I guess my art style has always been putting several bits and pieces together to form a bigger picture.
During a period of time in the second half of 2015, I fell in love with using paper punches to cut several small, identical pieces of shapes. At that time, I had a paper punch for butterfly shapes. In that same month, Taeyeon’s debut song ‘I’ was released. I was inspired by her song lyrics where it mentioned about butterfly, about flying high. So I had an idea of making a butterfly tree where some butterflies are slowly leaving their home and start to fly higher towards the moon – the place where they want to be.
To me, this drawing or paper art could refer about me doing mind singing. Because when I do mind singing, my mind is literally high up in the air. It could mean a desire to fly even higher to reach more people. And it also underlies a deepest question that I’ve always wanted to ask – do I really have to get famous in order to get closer to Taeyeon?
